I am inspired by Jimmy Carter's pledge to help end sexism. I join with him in this cause.
Today, I sat quietly, meditated, prayed and reflected about sexism. My intense feeling of hatred shocked me. I had no idea I carried this heavy burden of hate for all these years. Yes, I and others have experienced sexism. It is not a female problem it is a society problem. USA Women's liberation was not just for women it was also for men. It allowed men to be involved in their children's lives. They no longer babysat their kids, rather they shared parenting with their partner. This is huge. It was considered unmanly to be emotionally engaged with your children. Can you image that now? Why hatred? All those brilliant minds of women around the globe and throughout history never being able to fully contribute with their amazing talents and gifts. To me it is a global tragedy worse than any war. How many poems, and novels were never written, how many paintings never were painted, how many research project failed because of sexism. My solution: I wrote a letter to Sexism about my feeling and burned it. Dear Sexism, I hate you and this is why. Later as I was writing, I recognized that sexist behavior was a cultural energetic truth and I was part of the culture. No more victimhood for me and no need to be defensive. I am moving forward with love. My soul does feel better. It occurs to me that if we all wrote a letter about our feelings about sexism and burned it energetically we can clear sexism quickly. Trust me, it will work, remember I am a vibrational energy whiz kid, my zone of genius. Here is the youtube link of me reading this. A couple days ago another light energy worker asked me how I stay so grounded when working with higher dimensional vibrations. So I said," I walk with the earth not on the earth." Years ago I have marveled at Native American's surefooted walk with the earth. I wish for myself that I could be so connected with the earth and wonder. It wasn't clear to me when I began walking with the earth and not on the earth. What is clear to me is walking with the earth encourages my deep connection with the earth. It is a mindset. Another saying: We are not fleas on the back of a dog, rather we are the hairs of the dog's back. Have A Dazzle of A Day! . This morning the earth talked to me. As some of you may know science calculates the earth's vibrates on the 18th dimension. The earth is a living organism and as humans we sometimes have difficulty comprehending this level of light vibration. We do not have to understand it but we can feel the deep love of the earth. The earth is asking me to remind people that all the earth is sacred. Sometimes we have sacred circle areas. The earth appreciates this and feels your reverence. The earth wants you to take these memories of sacred time with the earth and carry it with you in your daily life. Our task is to acknowledge her sacredness through pray, meditation and our thoughts. We can and want to do this for her. Yeah us!
Well I am as surprised as you about the blog topic this week. Who knew? It appears to be a very popular clean little secret. Last two weeks I talked with a few people about meditation and asked them if they meditate. We discussed my blog post. It was surprised and I suppose it should not be surprising how many people enjoy the pleasure of washing dishes in their kitchen sink. Personally I thought with the other meditative choices some other forms of daily reflection practices would be mentioned. No, it is the warm water. The water’s warmth is comforting to the hands, and many people enjoy looking out the window as they wash the dishes. Realtors know many people have insisted on a window with a view in front of a sink. We want our windows even if we are not there much. Yes many of us have dishwashers and enjoy the convenience but the daily washing of a few chosen items often became part of the daily ritual. For myself, even the few times I did not have a window in front of the sink I still enjoyed washing dishes. However, since I now know the difference I want a window with a view. So if you always have had a window you are very lucky and if you do not have a window so sorry. Hope you can find a pleasant outdoor scene of a beach or a lovely peaceful forest. It sets the tone for the visual to connect with the kinetic touch of the body. The soapy water and playful bubbles add to the pleasure of the experience. The mind can float with the bubbles as a person mulls over the daily events, a respite from the electronic waves of now. Have you ever thought about our ancestors washing their dishes by hand and imprinting our love of dishwashing through DNA? It is a traditional familial practice of generations. Past down among the generations as a task with the additional words of “I do not mind doing the dishes.” Some even said they liked it. I remember my own mother and the neighbor’s mom saying that too. As a child, I was mystified. Really I thought. Mmmmm, It did not seem very enjoyable to me when there was games to be played, books to be read and TV to be watched. But just like growing children learn to eat vegetables washing dishes is an acquired skill of sophisticated meditative hand movements. Yet so practical, grounding, and task succeeding. Surely I would be shirking my blog post responsibilities if I did not provide a directive to use this meditation tool. Meditation Exercise for Washing Dishes Find some appropriate items to wash. Yes, a few pots, pans, cups and some specialty cutlery most likely will need a clean. This is the time to grab some lovely glassware to admire the sparkle, or a coffee cup that someone gave you. Chose you dishwashing soap. Some people like Dawn because of the name and the color blue. Some like Joy because of the name and the color yellow. Some like Biokleen because of the name and the color clear. If only a few dishes can be found wash your largest pot and use this as the official sink for the sink faucet water. Place each dish one at a time in the pot with soapy water. Each dish or glass is entitled to a little alone time with you. You and the object have become one in action and represent the oneness of the universe. Let your mind release as each item is washed. Let the thoughts of the day’s event enter into your conscious mind. Remember to accept any negative thoughts, breath into them and release; finish with the joys of the day’s activities. For me, I think to myself. “It is a Wonderful World” and I hear Louie Armstrong singing this song to all of us. What would you song be? Dishes done oh, so look around to see if you can extend the time of the meditation. The refrigerator is a good place to find potential. With luck one or two dishes will need a toss of old food and a clean. Now all the dishes are washed. You can now dry the dishes or air dry them--Your choice, the hand drying does extend the time of the meditative movement. If you do decide to dry be sure to choose a comforting dishtowel to wipe. I would recommend green or orange cotton towels. Why, because I like them. Ok dishes done, task completed, take a deep breath, exhale and release, meditation over. Yeah You! Happy Washing Dazzlers, Anne Marie MEDITATION Welcome! Today‘s writing is about the practice of meditation. Personally I have been meditating for over forty years. It has been a rewarding practice for me and along the way I have gathered some thoughts about it. In 1972 my friend Julie told me about TM or Transcendental Meditation. I worked with a mantra, a prescribed sound. We were encouraged to meditate twice a day. My practice has evolved and I no longer practice TM but I do a morning meditation almost daily. I have had some breaks in my practice but I always go back to my routine. It keeps me centered. Also, through the years I have thought about meditation and what does that really mean? How many times have you heard someone say they cannot meditate? Or you yourself could have said the same thing. I am here to say maybe you are meditating and not recognizing the action. Often people think meditation is sitting quietly trying to have no thoughts in their head. As you may know this can become difficult. In my experience this willfulness of quiet can create more chatter and before you know it you head is so busy you forget to breathe. Not the desired outcome. Breathing is essential part of meditation. It reminds us that we are alive and in our body. So what other types of activities can remind us that we are one with our bodies. Using sound can send a vibration through our whole body. Using smell through aromatherapy can also connect us with our bodies. Using visuals, such as my artwork above is another method. My belief is meditation is really all about being with the body and has the mind follow. Can you think of all the times this might have happened? A hike, running, walking with nature, swimming, drumming, playing music, walking along an ocean beach, or even washing the dishes in the sink can all provide a rhythmic connection with body and mind. How about sound? One of the most universal sounds is the sound of water. It could be a babbling brook, a raging river or gentle ocean waves. Sound can connect with the body on lots of different levels. As many of you might know the seven chakras, the spiral vortexes centered along the body, have a sound vibration associated with each of them. In Indian culture these sounds have words and people use the words to vibrate with their bodies. This is a form of chanting. Many cultures chant and this chanting can indeed connect with the mind, body and for many the soul. Western Culture is most familiar with the medieval practice of Gregorian chant. A variety of aromatherapy essential oils can increase relaxation, and connect with a peaceful, loving vibration. Years ago I remember being in a classroom with a teacher. She demonstrated how each essential oil could create a change for the person. Many people are familiar with lavender and its soothing properties. Each essential oil has their own purpose. As a visual artist I like to engage the viewer to take the time to really connect with the artwork. The art work above is about creativity and focuses on the sexual and creative second chakra. Further, not only is my work designed for meditative purpose but the doing for me is a form of meditation. My challenge to you is to think about all the ways you might engage in a form of meditation in everyday life. Please leave your comments so others may benefit from your knowledge. |
